They are papers that are allegiedly written about secret meeting with Truman about Extraterresterials. Some believe these papers were falsified while others believe them to be genuine. </p><p>Chapter 31 begins with the events that cause Phil Klass to become involved with the government's surveillance of Paul Bennowitz.' First he skimmed a copy of John G. Fuller's book.<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Incident-at-Exeter-John-Fuller/dp/0425039293">Incident at Exeter</a> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVav8rDMi3E7mST0_UylCW-w4T1ZtmkJVOzQZGocjzcbn1sq1QDfndCquX9AKke_RBEYtZ_EH5zMdHQ4PWj7gA_LQaS6LH48XGromTZMB2Ra7EdAzsFbs-ONnE5PWM4qdSJRx2fu45jFFt4bvoTmYS06bWoznTrwP23z26-ljDaBatzapjiC_q2f6C/s293/41x939RvmcL._SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_FMwebp_.webp" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="293" data-original-width="180" height="132" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVav8rDMi3E7mST0_UylCW-w4T1ZtmkJVOzQZGocjzcbn1sq1QDfndCquX9AKke_RBEYtZ_EH5zMdHQ4PWj7gA_LQaS6LH48XGromTZMB2Ra7EdAzsFbs-ONnE5PWM4qdSJRx2fu45jFFt4bvoTmYS06bWoznTrwP23z26-ljDaBatzapjiC_q2f6C/w81-h132/41x939RvmcL._SY291_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_FMwebp_.webp" width="81" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">He started to review the information in the book. Chapters 26-29 recount some of the happenings with Elmwood Wisconsin and the UFO working group. <br />
One of the residents, a Methodist minister, voices his objection to the "UFO Days" that are being planned at Elmwood. He uses a two-pronged attack: <br />
<ol>
<li>people are bowing down to the UFO as a "golden calf" rather than seeking spiritual guidance from God</li>
<li>their was only only Jesus, who died for our sins, so the aliens must be evil.</li>
</ol>
Of course I am oversimplifying, but that those are the main ideas. <br />
<br />
While, I was reading I couldn't help but think of this as happening in the 50's but this was in 1988. I also looked up Elmwood Wisconsin and they apparently still have the UFO Days. They even have a Facebook page set up for them <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/UFO-Days-Elmwood-WI-Last-full-weekend-every-July/315363775176519">UFO Days in Elmwood</a><br />
<br />
Then the book joins the UFO Working Group where they had two "undercover" people getting all sorts of information from people at the celebration. They also talk to a professor of exobiology, Cyril Ponnamperuma. Exobiology is the study of what life would look outside of Earth's atmosphere. Also, at this time, 2 Canadian scientist were working on a theory about what dinosaurs would look like if the Stenonchosaurus dinosaur hadn't died out<br />
<br />
It ends with the group looking at picutres that were shown in People magazine, the humanoid, and the Canadian pictures and they all look remarkably similar.<br />

Well, I am going to try this again. I am kiinda of excited because I know so much more about blogging than i did before. I still have the book Out There and looking on previous posts I stopped at Chapter 26. Here we go again </div>Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-81299514763826671442011-08-22T23:49:00.000-07:002011-08-22T23:49:46.967-07:00Elmwood WIsconsin<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">These chapter talks about the UFO encounters that occured in Elmwood Wisconsin. Some were not very freindly and gave pause to fact that most people assume that alien enounters are friendly. They may not be. It also documents on man's obsession about creating a landing strip for the aliens to come and land in Wisconsin and what a boon it would be to the economy of the town,<br />
On to Chapter 26.</div>Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-46139398881556372822011-08-21T19:24:00.000-07:002011-08-21T19:26:30.035-07:00...back to our regularly scheduled program<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><div closure_uid_ut5o4="136">Chapter 22 begins with a man and his dream. In this chapter Tom Webber has a dream about the people of Elmwood not welcoming the alien visitors that seem to be arriving at that town. In the next chapter he goes to visit the mayor.</div><div closure_uid_ut5o4="136">He does mention electromagnetism and I have always thought that the reason ufo are always seen near trailer parks is because of the metal. All that metal must give off a large signal and of course to add some more weirdness. Stonehenge is said to have been built where a whole bunch of electromagnetic lines converge. Pretty cool huh?</div></div>Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-73258901179109723842011-07-26T16:04:00.000-07:002011-07-26T16:04:07.219-07:00Phew! It all works out (kinda)<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Well, leave it to Carl Sagan to smooth things over. It seems that both he and Senator Proxmire were both worried about nuclear technology. Carl brought up the L in Drakes equation and the senator realized that if there is an advanced civilization, that they have survived without blowing each other up and that maybe we could learn from them.<br />
<br />
While reading this I recalled a book that mentioned how Jane Goodall would talk to people about their viewpoints and see how she could help them meet their concerns without harming animals. Blessed are the Peacemakers :-)<br />
<br />
Chapters 18 discusses about how alot of the people on the SETI project, now that it was funded, were technologically advanced but didn't really have the passion. Basically they were engineers trying to solve interesting problems, not that they believed in the extraterrestrial being. <br />
<br />
I also thought that this entire book talks about how we were looking for aliens. However, I haven't heard anything about what we are doing to contact them. Are we sending signals as well? I hope that it least mentions this in the book at a later point. Of course their was a section in Codes and Ciphers about this as well.</div>Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-35273033242409609712011-07-24T17:40:00.000-07:002011-07-24T17:40:07.837-07:00OMG<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><br />
<div closure_uid_npjg4b="163">Chapter 16 starts out with Senator Proxmire <a closure_uid_npjg4b="155" href="http://www.amazon.com/Senator-Proxmires-Exercise-Diet-Relaxation/dp/B001RKQJH0?ie=UTF8&tag=readi09-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">You Can Do It! I am sure that the government used that funding for much more necessary items because we always fund welfare and Hud and we all now how successful THOSE programs are!!!</div><div closure_uid_npjg4b="154">Back then NASA was able to look to the space shuttle program for solace. Unfortunately, where can the space shuttle scientist turn to now?</div><div closure_uid_npjg4b="154"><br />
</div><div closure_uid_npjg4b="154">However, Drake added a new element to his theory in honor of the senator</div><div closure_uid_npjg4b="154">P= How many elected office does an advanced technological civilization have that are scientifically ignorant? If the answer is P=1, no need to waste your time :-)</div><div closure_uid_npjg4b="154"><br />
</div><div closure_uid_npjg4b="154">Oh well. Maybe Chapter 17 will be more enjoyable.</div></div>Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-88318230930659916782011-07-21T19:18:00.000-07:002011-07-21T19:18:07.697-07:00Chapter 15<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">This chapter begins with defining some of the rest of the terms of Drake's Equation<br />
Fl= the planets that develop life<br />
Fi=planets that have intelligent life<br />
<br />
It points out that man is not the ONLY intelligent life on this planet<br />
It also mentions that pressure is good, kind of like the Nike commercial :-) If organisms don't feel the pressure of predators or lack of food, they never have a reason to evolve into something else.<br />
<br />
Fc= planet with life that have the ability and desire to communicate.<br />
<div closure_uid_tom8gq="151">They use the examples that creatures may have the desire to communicate and are intelligent like dolphins, but can't build a radio telescopes, because they may not biologically be able to (i.e. flippers) Then again, who know how long and far a dolphins clicks can be heard?</div><div closure_uid_tom8gq="151"><br />
</div><div closure_uid_tom8gq="151">L= how long the civilization capable of intersellar communication last</div><div closure_uid_tom8gq="151"><br />
</div></div>Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-7216398999113560622011-07-20T19:47:00.000-07:002011-07-20T19:47:35.319-07:00Chapter 14<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"><span><span><iframe align="left" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=readi09-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=B001BZ2PTC&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="align: left; height: 245px; padding-right: 10px; padding-top: 5px; width: 131px;"></iframe></span></span><div closure_uid_yrf3yk="165">In Chapter 14, I learned that Carl Sagan was a member of the Order of the Dolphin. Pretty Cool huh. They got their name, allegedly, because one of the scientists noted the fact that dolphins were highly intelligent beings here on Earth and we can't communicate with them. Therefore, should we be able to communicated with more advanced beings?</div><br />
<div closure_uid_yrf3yk="166">It also mentions the Drake Equation which is N=R* x Fp x Ne x Fl x Fi x Fc xL</div><div closure_uid_yrf3yk="166">N is the number of technologically advanced civilazations.</div><div closure_uid_yrf3yk="166">R* is the rate of star formation</div><div closure_uid_yrf3yk="166">Fp is the faction of starts with planets</div><div closure_uid_yrf3yk="166">Ne is how many planets orbits the stars have an environment for life</div><div closure_uid_yrf3yk="166"><br />
</div><div closure_uid_yrf3yk="166">I enjoyed the last paragraph because it put into perspective about how precious life is. Just one or two degrees of difference in the Earth's rotation and we would never have developed.</div></div>Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-35055439045985970472011-07-18T08:47:00.000-07:002011-07-18T08:47:24.109-07:00Back againChapter 13 introduces us to Drake of the famed Drake equation. ( I even heard of it on the Big Bang Theory) It was pretty interested and mentions that they did hear some noise from a star that may have been from ET but it couldn't be confirmed because they also heard it with another instrument which meant it could have been a man made noise.<br />
<br />
Glad I am back to reading these books. I hope this helps me complete my project. Like Winston Churchill said "Never, Never give up"<br />
<br />
Oh yeah, one really neat thing is that while I was visiting my brother in Blue Ridge, I watched the movie Horton Hears a Who and it seemed appropriate. Horton is the only one that can hear the whos. Kind of like these scientist trying to hear alien life. Only they can hear it, but will people believe them. Don't know if that was Dr. Seuss' intention but thought the correlation was pretty interesting.Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-21865410982521071592011-06-29T20:35:00.000-07:002011-06-29T20:35:47.254-07:00MEH<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">Well, I'm a little disappointed with Chapter 12. Not really disappointed because it is interesting. However, it mainly talks about Morrison and deciding on the frequency to search for alien transmissions. It does seem that it takes the book into a different direction. Still interesting to know though. </div>Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-81332229712915649762011-06-27T18:50:00.000-07:002011-06-27T18:50:09.069-07:00Interesting<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">To me it was interesting that the book mentioned that Lowell believed that there were canals on Mars that were used to carry water. Now, science has shown that there used to(?) be water on Mars. <br />
It also discusses how to travel to spaces similarly to what Carl Sagan just talked about on the episode of Cosmos that I just watched.<br />
Chapter 12 will begin discussing the ruse of radio astronomy.</div>Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-16261963725625470612011-06-25T07:53:00.000-07:002011-06-25T08:14:26.532-07:00Finally we get to SETI<iframe align="left" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=readi09-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=0671662600&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="align: left; height: 245px; padding-right: 10px; padding-top: 5px; width: 131px;"></iframe>Chapter 10 introduces us to Phillip Morrison the professor at Cornell University who thought of using radio waves to search for Extra-terrestrial life. He was listeningto Bach music at a concert there when a number or events congealed in his mind to come up with using radio waves instead of gamma waves as a signal to other universes.<br />
They then discuss some of the other ideas people had to contact other "people"- planting trees in right triangles, flaming ditches, etc. <br />
One of these people was Precival Lowell who built the Lowell Observatory in Arizona . Pretty cool huh?Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-60480240657989765362011-06-23T18:50:00.000-07:002011-06-23T18:50:33.675-07:00Chapters 7 & 8Chapter 7 talked about projects Moon Dust and Blue Fly. However, these were scrapped because no UFO were recovered. I always wonder if the UFO that people see are really just new aircraft that other countries have made, esp. in the 1960's, that the USA didn't know about yet.<br />
<br />
Chapter 8 discussed how General Pfautz was very animated in talking to the UFO working group about how the US would benefit from alien technology. Then Colonel Phillips said that the information was compartmented and that Compartmented Information was a classification higher that Top Secret. Of course if that is true, how does the author know about it? <br />
The author and general have an arguement where the general thinks the author told the head honchos that he mentioned the working group and 1983. The author says that he never told anyone that the general mentioned the group because the general didn't. Such drama queens.<br />
<br />
Chapter 9 will start part III- the order of the dolphin. I remember reading a little bit about that the last time i tried to finish this book.Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-49967187573981908182011-06-22T16:09:00.000-07:002011-06-22T16:19:17.645-07:00Chapter 6This chapter told about the CIA's report <em>The Investigation of UFOs </em>and how there seemed to be in the early years a dichotomy of information given out. Classified information said one thing and those for viewing said another. Basically that the Air Force publicly had everything under control and explaned. However, they also were concerned that the objects may be a danger to national security.<br />
It mentions Project Blue Book where the Air Force investigated over 13,000 cases abd had different groups look at the different types of "evidence". One thing was that photographs were sent to Eastman Kodak Company. That is where my father worked :-) I am sure that they sent them to the headquarters in Rochester, NY and Dad did not work on anything but the connection is neat.<br />
On to Chapter 7!! Shouldn't be long now... there are only 39 chapters total.Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-81743402115072372362011-06-21T19:11:00.000-07:002011-06-21T19:11:47.352-07:00Part II- The beginning<span><iframe align="left" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?t=readi09-20&o=1&p=8&l=bpl&asins=0671662600&fc1=000000&IS2=1&lt1=_blank&m=amazon&lc1=0000FF&bc1=000000&bg1=FFFFFF&f=ifr" style="align: left; height: 245px; padding-right: 10px; padding-top: 5px; width: 131px;"></iframe></span>I am begining the book Out There by Howard Blum again. I am on chapter 5 which begins part II- The burrowers. Part One was mainly about the governments unofficial/official group to investigate UFO sightings. Heavily leaning on the military for obvious reasons. Hopefully I will be able to finish book. Try, try again. I have decided that I will have to read 10 pages in this book before I can read the other book I am reading "for fun".Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-47099513269869058282010-12-17T08:24:00.000-08:002010-12-17T08:24:14.786-08:00WooHoo!!! Finished book #2Well, I have finished the book <u>Codes and Ciphers.</u> I am glad I did because it was really interesting and the last chapters covered the criminal use of codes and they also talked about when the codes were not followed and how it cost a lot of resources. The very last chapter talks about the Pioneer 10 and the codes on board the "ship" which was coincidental because on the news a couple of days ago, they mentioned that the Pioneer 10 spacecraft just passed out of the heliosphere, which is the area, where the sun loses its influence on objects.<br />
<br />
I am now, restarting the book Out There. I hope it won't take as long the second time around :-) It too was interesting what I read. But now, that I have more time, yeah snow days, it think the story will be more intriguing.Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-33575240842458933002010-12-09T13:39:00.000-08:002010-12-09T13:39:23.052-08:00It continuesI am still reading in Codes and Ciphers. We had 2 snow days here so I got some more reading done. WooHoo. I believe I only have 3 more chapters to go. Currently I am reading about the PURPLE Japanese code in WWII. I am always amazed at the intelligence that these people have in decifering out the codes. I can't even do the jumble in the newspaper. Maybe after the end of this book, I will at least be able to do that.Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-13257760978523973352010-12-04T09:40:00.001-08:002010-12-04T09:40:04.196-08:00Halfway finishedI am now on Chapter 4 in the book Codes and Ciphers. It is really getting very interesting and I am glad that I am going to finish it. I never realized what an important part of history these code makers and breakers played. As an American, I am even getting over some of my French bias by seeing how they helped in WWI. <br />
I am also getting excited to move onto another book. While looking through books in the library, I get excited about reading the books in the 300s and 600s of the library. I am not sure what to do about all the bibles though. I mean it takes many people over a year to read 1 bible. Yikes!!! We will see how it turns out though.Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-3527937672061180652010-11-29T12:38:00.000-08:002010-11-29T12:38:10.278-08:00I have restarted again :-)After having a LOOONG time off I have restarted my project again. I am excited because I am now on chapter 3!!! Woohoo!!! The reading is hard because I try and figure out the ciphers before moving on but once I quit and am just reading the book it is alot easier and the codes are easier to figure out once I have read past that area.Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-54551993201513066402010-08-15T07:10:00.000-07:002010-08-15T07:10:37.263-07:00Switching<span><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Codes-ciphers-Undercover-Peter-Way/dp/0490003729?ie=UTF8&tag=readi09-20&link_code=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969" target="_blank">Codes and ciphers (Undercover)</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=readi09-20&l=btl&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=0490003729" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; margin: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px! important; padding-left: 0px! important; padding-right: 0px! important; padding-top: 0px! important;" width="1" /></span>Ok. I had to turn in the book Out There. I had only gotten halfway finished with it but I got another book called Codes and Cyphers by Peter Way. The cool thing is that is is shelved before Out There so I am reading them MORE in order than before.<br />
Well, gotta go. <br />

At the end, I must admit that it did have some basic good career information whether you are in consulting or not.<br />
<br />
The next book is called"Out There" and it is a book about UFO's. Talk about going from one extreme to the other. I am very excited about reading it because I think it will not be as difficult to "trudge" through.Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-68560961294535561942010-06-07T13:46:00.000-07:002010-06-07T13:46:10.257-07:00New books!!! Sort of...Well, due to the fact that i am over halfway through with my consulting book, I have checked out the next two books that are in the catalog. Actually there is one in-between and it is checked out, but I have requested it for when they have finished.<br />
The two new books are: Out there and In search of bigfoot. I must admit I think aliens and bigfoot are going to be alot more interesting that starting a consulting business. However, they probably won't be as useful as the other bookMartysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-6436225776528285062010-06-06T22:59:00.000-07:002010-06-06T22:59:57.874-07:00Halfway ThereWell currrently I am halfway though my first book. It is on consulting and has great ideas, however, I am on the section on marketing and since it was written in 2002 some of the adverstising are a little out of date but overall I am enjoying it. If I had a skill that were transferrable this would be a great resource for me.Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-858456221589135053.post-11106004829258853862010-06-02T20:52:00.000-07:002010-06-02T20:52:32.836-07:00ConundrumWell, I am almost halfway finished with my first book. The conundrum I am having is that I just signed up for the Johnson City Public Library's summer reading program for adults. To participate in that I have to read books from their library. They gave me a really cool starfish bookmark when I signed up.<br />
What to do? What to do?<br />
I really don't want to go out of order on the Jonesborough list though, but can I read THAT MUCH in one summer. Fortunately, the JCPL counts audiobooks in their reading programs so I will at least get some done that way.<br />
Have a great day and remember "It all works out in the end. If it isn't working out, it isn't the end."Martysohttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10887199536370436815noreply@blogger.com0
